Padhiga Ratnam

Kolaru padhigam and Thiruneetru padhigam were sung by Thirugnyanasambandar. These padhigams reflect the essence of Shaiva Siddhanta.

Kolaruppadhigam

Thirugnyanasambandar and Thirunavukkarasar were Nayanmars, who were ardent devotees of Shiva. They lived about 1300 years ago. Once, when Thirugnyanasambandar was getting ready to go on a journey, Thirunavukkarasar objected, saying that the day, planetary positions and star constellations were inauspicious and unsuitable for travel. Thirugnyanasambandar sang the Kolaruppadhigam, explaining that the ill-effects of the day, planetary positions and star constellations will not affect the devotee of Shiva.

Thiruneetruppadhigam

In Madurai, the Pandya king was sick with an illness that none could cure. Thirugnyanasambandar explained the glory and power of Shiva’s Thiruneeru in Thiruneetruppadhigam and cured the king.
